It’s time to look back at the commemoration of the July Victims!

The events commemorating the 78th anniversary of the Augustów Roundup began on Saturday, 8 July 2023, with an educational picnic. Through educational games, the youngsters learned about the fate of the Augustów Roundup victims, as well as practiced the cra

In the evening, the LIPCOWE concert took place on the Netta riverside commons. The event devoted to the families of the Augustów Roundup victims featured Ewelina Flinta, RENI JUSIS, Tulia, Marika and Jagoda Kret, who performed songs inspired by the authentic stories of the victims of the events of July 1945. The artistic director was Robert Cichy, while the event director and author of the lyrics was Aleksandra Górecka. The band Żurkowski performed on the same stage, playing songs from their #LIPCOWI album.

On 9 July, we got together to sing patriotic songs with the “Bystry” Folk Dance Group and the band “Pogranicze”!

On 10 July, we spent the afternoon taking part in an urban historical game „In the Search for Truth”, inspired by the history of the Citizens’ Committee for the Search for the Inhabitants of the Suwałki Region Lost in July 1945.

On 11 July, we took part in the educational walk “Tracing the Victims of the Augustów Roundup” led by Dr. Łukasz Faszcza, and then we saw an outdoor screening of the film “The Day After.”

The culminating point of this year’s commemoration was 12 July – the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Augustów Roundup. The Wall of Remembrance with the victims’ names was unveiled during the ceremony and the cornerstone of the Augustów Roundup Memorial was officially laid on the construction site. The participants then took part in Holy Mass for the Victims of the Augustów Roundup and their families at the Basilica minor in Augustów.

Afterwards, the participants attended the seventh public reading of the names of the victims of the Augustów Roundup organized by the Home Army History Club in Augustów and the Augustów Cultural Institutions.
