The band Żurkowski and the Pilecki Institute present the album LIPCOWI [July Victims]

On Tuesday, 4 July 2023, we held a press conference to promote the release of the album LIPCOWI [July Victims], commemorating the 77th anniversary of the Augustów Roundup. The album features songs inspired by the true stories of the victims told by the wit

The project involves 10 songs, which premiered during a special concert in July 2022 in Augustów. Now this material can reach a broader audience via a studio album featuring such artists as Olena Yanchuk, Meek, Oh Why?, Ana Andrzejewska, Swiernalis and Robert Cichy.

“The album LIPCOWI features ten beautiful songs. Each one tells a true story related to the tragic events of July 1945 – the Augustów Roundup, which was the most severe atrocity carried out in Poland after World War II. Its scale exceeds the local character, it’s truly shocking. These events are a part of Polish national memory, our common identity.”

– said Prof. Magdalena Gawin, Director of the Pilecki Institute, during the press conference promoting the album.

“I’ve been involved in the project from the very beginning, when we were trying to figure out how to tell this untold story. I wanted to talk about specific people, restore their memory, so that we would have more than just names written on a monument. They were real people, flesh and blood. Right from the start, I was certain that we should tell authentic stories of individuals.”

– said Aleksandra Górecka, the author of the lyrics for the album LIPCOWI.

“I’m very proud to be the first person to record an album devoted to this story. The Augustów Roundup was an enormous tragedy that has left people with wounds that have not had the chance to heal. That’s why we need to talk about it.”

– emphasized Łukasz Żurkowski.

The album LIPCOWI was released by Mystic Production.
