Unveiling of the Wall of Remembrance of the Victims of the Augustów Roundup

An official unveiling of the Wall of Remembrance of the Victims of the Augustów Roundup – an art installation on the premises of “Dom Turka” featuring the names of people murdered in July 1945.

“The Wall of Remembrance serves as a token of our protest against the unpunished murder of Poles and civilians in general. It is a token of protest against Russia’s past and present actions. Russia has always killed people.”

emphasized Prof. Magdalena Gawin, Director of the Pilecki Institute.

 

Present during the official ceremony were, among others, the families of the Victims of the Augustów Roundup; on behalf of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda – Secretary of State at the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Dera; on behalf of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Prof. Piotr Gliński – Director of the Political Office of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Kacper Sakowicz; MP Jarosław Zieliński; on behalf of the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Adam Andruszkiewicz – Director of the Office of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Piotr Wasilewski; on behalf of MEP Karol Karski – Member of the Podlaskie Regional Assembly, Paweł Wnukowski; on behalf of the President of the Institute of National Remembrance, Dr. Karol Nawrocki – Director of the Białystok Branch of the Institute of National Remembrance, Dr. Marek Jedynak; the Starost of Augustów, Jarosław Szlaszyński; the Mayor of Augustów, Mirosław Karolczuk; the Monument Conservator for the Podlaskie Region, Prof. Małgorzata Dajnowicz.

 

The ceremony was also attended by representatives of the Polish Army, uniformed services, the State Forests, the church, cultural institutions, local government, the Augustów Branch of the Siberian Exiles Association, the Augustów Scout Troop of the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association, local community organizations, historical and veterans’ associations, as well as Augustów schools.
