Hacker attack on the websites of the Pilecki Institute in Warsaw, Berlin, and Augustów

On the night of August 13–14 our websites suffered another serious hacking attack. Content bearing the hallmarks of Russian propaganda and disinformation — targeting Polish history and reinforcing anti-Ukrainian narratives — was deliberately placed on the Institute's pages devoted to Augustów, Berlin, and Warsaw.

Thanks to the immediate response of our IT team, who worked late into the night, the affected websites were taken offline and the attack was blocked.

The situation is under control, a detailed security review of all our websites and servers is now underway. We remain in constant contact with CSIRT NASK's (computer security incident response team). The Crisis Management Centre of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (MKiDN) has been notified of the incident.

For years, the Pilecki Institute has actively countered disinformation, researched 20th-century totalitarianisms, and cooperated with Ukrainian archives and institutions. The Institute has no intention of abandoning this mission, regardless of the pressure and aggression it faces.
